The Conference

The South Atlantic Division hosted its first HPV / Cervical Cancer Conference August 4 - 5, 2008, at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham, N.C.

The HPV / Cervical Cancer Conference provided up-to-date information on the science (HPV vaccine, cervical cancer prevention and detection), provided a forum on new and emerging issues, and shared strategies for community action, with a focus on African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Appalachian and rural populations.

Thank you to all the South Atlantic Division staff, selected volunteer partners and invited guests of the Division who represented one or more of the three targeted populations from the states of the Division and the District of Columbia.

Conference topics included:

  • Cancer Control Strategies
  • State of the Science: epidemiology, virology, and HPV vaccine
  • Breakout topics: Continuum of Cervical Cancer
    1. Causes
    2. Prevention
    3. Detection (ACS Guidelines)
    4. Treatment
  • Access to Care and Policy in Rural Communities
  • Effective Community Practices
  • Community Action Planning

CEU’s were approved in Nursing, Social Services and Physicians.
